Boyds accept 2007 Habitat home

| October 29, 2013 12:15 PM

The Kootenai Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity announces it has found a new family for the  home it built in 2007 at 1307 Idaho Ave.

That new family is the Ken and Miranda Boyd family, which includes three sons.

The home originally was built in partnership with Heather and Bob Van de Sandt and their three children. Last spring, that family said, because of work, they needed to move to Lewistown.

The local chapter was able to exercise the first rights to the house and to give them the equity they had built in the house — continuing the Habitat philosophy of “a hand up, not a hand out.”

The Boyds and their sons were selected for the home.

Habitat for Humanity always looks at a family’s income, their willingness to partner and the current housing situation they are living in.

The Boyd’s have been “paying” their sweat equity  by working on the refurbishing of the house — ripping out flooring, painting, yard work, etc.

The Boyds took over the home Sunday during a brief ceremony.
