Mary Mellem, 68, of Libby

Mary Jane Mellem, surrounded by family and friends. passed away Oct. 11, 2013, at her home in Libby.

Jane was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Helena to Albert and May (McCreanor) Barney. Jane spent several years in Gardner before moving to Libby in 1948.

Jane graduated from Libby High School with the class of 1962 and married Douglas Mellem in Libby on Jan. 5, 1963. They raised three children in Libby, and she spent a very fond 33-year career with the U.S. Forest Service Kootenai District, of which she was very fond.

Jane enjoyed growing up living in Northwest Montana, as well as traveling around the U.S. and Canada camping and visiting many of the historic points of interest. She also enjoyed golf, league softball, hunting, fishing, cooking, canning, coin collecting, arts and crafts and certainly floating and fishing the Kootenai River with her friend Vicky Randall.

 Jane is preceded in death by her parents.

Jane is survived by her husband of 50 years, Doug Mellem, as well as children, Michael Mellem of Houston, Texas, Michelle Mellem Yeager of Kalispell, and Alexandria Ross of Fort Collins, Colo; three sisters, Catherine Kins (Kay) of  Yaak, Bonnie (Don) Westfall of Libby, and Marjorie (Paul) Robinson of Osburn, Idaho;       seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would also like to thank all the caregivers during her illness.

Private services will be held in Libby next summer.
