The Loggers played the season’s last American Legion baseball doubleheader at home Sunday against the Glacier Twins, and the Loggers dominated both games 12-3 and 9-2 in a statement to broadcast their momentum before traveling to the district tournament in Eureka on Thursday.

The Loggers took to the scoreboard quickly with two runs scored in the first by winning pitcher Will Reichel and first baseman Luke Haggerty via a sacrifice fly by Oliver Grupenhoff.

The Twins attempted a strategic comeback in the top of the third with a squeeze play at home, as a sacrifice bunt by Jake Slaybaugh brought losing pitcher Brandon Maassen home. The Twins tied the game at 2 with a run by walking in a run.

With two on base in the bottom of the third, Grupenhoff smacked a double into center field that scored another two runs by shortstop Jared Winslow and third baseman Micah Germany to secure the lead that lasted the remaining innings of the first game.

After a crippling four-run stint by the Loggers in the fourth inning, Austin Robbins relieved Maassen from the mound and struck out the next hitter to finish the inning.

But the shift in momentum went unnoticed by the Loggers, who took advantage of the first two hitters with a double play by Winslow and Luke Haggerty, before a catch by Winslow to quickly end the fifth inning.

Germany led in runs scored with three, while Reichel, Winslow and Luke Haggerty finished with two apiece. Grupenhoff finished the first game batting 3-for-3 and had five RBIs.

The Loggers took no time off in the beginning of the second game, going into the bottom of the first down by one before scoring four runs.

Libby left fielder Josh Foote took a run of his own, rounding two bases on a single by Isaak Jones in the third inning, before joining the host of Logger runs in the fifth inning that capped the night for the Twins.

Foote and Reichel finished the game batting 2-for-3, and Winslow batted 3-for-3 against losing pitcher Bret Almos. Germany, winning pitcher of the second game, allowed two earned runs on seven hits by the Twins team.

The Loggers will be seeded depending on other conference teams’ play later this week, before the district tourney to be held in Eureka. Mission Valley Mariners still hold the No. 1 spot.
