Grant supplies archivist to Heritage Museum

| July 12, 2013 2:57 PM

The Heritage Museum has won a grant from the State Historical Records Advisory Board to fund an archivist internship during the summer.

Adrienne Evans, graduate student at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, began her work in June. Her duties include processing the backlog of museum archival collections and sharing her knowledge with archive volunteers.

In exchange, she is gaining experience in the real world, such as training in Past Perfect, the computer program used by most museums. To date, she has processed two collections and is working on a third.

“I’m happy to be here, and I’m learning a lot,” Evans said. “It’s a good professional development opportunity for me and I hope it will be beneficial for the museum as well.”

Not only is Evans happy to be in Libby, but Heritage Museum staff is glad to have her training as well.

“We are very lucky to be one of two Montana museums to receive this grant,” said Mary Hebenstreit, archive coordinator. “Our archive volunteers work very hard to preserve documentation that relates to our history. It has been difficult to keep up with all the generous donations of archival material. The intern provided under this grant is helping us catch up. She is a delightful young lady. We would like to keep her forever.”
