Tree Board grateful to Vicky Lawrence for her service

| December 6, 2013 9:29 AM

Letter to the Editor,

The Libby Tree Board would like to express our thanks to Vicky Lawrence, who is retiring from the Libby Tree Board. Vicky has been instrumental in directing the Tree Board in our many accomplishments during the past several years.

The Tree Board, now in its 20th year, was created entirely for the purpose of preserving, planting and maintaining our city’s trees. With the support of the City Council, the Tree Board has planted more than 700 trees on public property. Our goal being to canopy the city in colorful foliage. A good example of our efforts is at Lincoln Boulevard on 7th Street.

Being a member of Tree City USA, we have been able to apply for and receive many grants. Along with this money and many donations we have spent more than $50,000 on trees for the community. We have purchased most of our trees and associated materials from various outlets in Libby.

The Libby Tree Board is 100 percent volunteer and was created to enhance the beauty of Libby. We extend our thank you to Vicky for her leadership and the countless hours spent planning and organizing projects. Thanks to Vicky’s leadership, we planted over 200 trees in Riverfront Park this year.

Vicky will be difficult to replace, but the Tree Board will continue our mission. If you see Vicky, please tell her thank you. We all owe her a great deal of gratitude for making Libby a better place to live.
