Libby residents expect more from city leadership

| August 9, 2013 4:32 PM

Libby citizens expect more.

Libby has enjoyed many good years. We have seen many years in which the town has struggled greatly from flooding of the Kootenai to the creeks. Libby has seen its ups and downs with mining and logging. Libby has suffered from asbestos-related disease, and so on.

Those are some examples of the hardships Libby citizens have either dealt with or are currently dealing with. Libby citizens expect more from each other.

Libby leadership has isolated themselves from that expectation of the common citizen. Libby citizens expect their neighbors to help in time of need, as well as we expect our neighbors to ask in their own time of need. Libby expects our local government leaders to keep our families safe.

Our leadership has blamed anyone else they could for not getting the funding needed to replace the dam and streets. Citizens expect more.

Leadership has all but forgotten Libby has faced harder challenges, and some of our citizens still face greater challenges on a daily basis. Libby has battled and won throughout its history, in part because Libby citizens expect more.

When local leadership rises to show its citizens what great things will happen through faith and hard work while remembering the expectations of Libby citizens goes beyond a park, law or dam - only then should local leadership expect more from its citizens.

Leadership needs to remember Libby citizens expects more than a letter or an email blaming others. Libby expects action from leadership.
