Phil O'Neill, 77, of Troy

| April 16, 2013 10:49 AM

Phil O’Neill passed away at home on April 12, 2013, after enduring many years of heart problems.

His heart may have been physically weak, but it held tremendous love for his family and friends.

Phil was born on June 29, 1935, in Superior, and he moved to Troy in 1968.

Phil served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. After moving to Troy he primarily worked as a truck driver in the logging and construction industry.

When he wasn’t on the job, he was always active at home or helping others with their projects.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling and camping. While standing by the campfire, all who knew Phil saw a man of great wit and gruff exterior. Phil was a person who deep down was always there for you through thick and thin.

His stepdaughter Becky Kelso preceded him in death.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years,  Sue; his son, Jim (Audrey “Fred”) O’Neill; his stepdaughter, Terri (Rod) Johnson; stepdaughter, Brenda Orr, and friend Bob Cochell; brother, John O’Neill; sisters, Margaret Fleming and Mary (Gary) Sloan; nine  grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren and so many friends.

Private family services will be held. Local arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
