The Pitiful Players, the local theater troupe, has scheduled it’s latest production — “The Curse of the Pitiful Pirates” — for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, at Libby’s Little Theatre.

All Pitiful Players’ productions are free to attend.

The Curse of the Pitiful Pirates features a script by Keith Meyers, who for the first time is not part of the on-stage cast. Instead, Meyers is concentrating on his duties as director.

“It’s giving me a different perspective of the cast,” Meyers said. “I am incredibly impressed with this cast. They are so good. This is stunning.”

The cast last weekend honed its characterization in the play, which was performed Friday at Troy’s Lincoln Theater and then again Saturday at The Pearl in Bonners Ferry.

The plot involves two young pirates, who while on shore leave in Bermuda, fall in love with the same local island girl. The play involves their interaction a generation later. The  script, Meyers said, is a humorous look at their relationship filled with double-entendre.

“We encourage people to come and dress as pirates,” Meyers said. “It will be a lot of fun.”
