The Libby Logger boys soccer team split its two games this weekend, beating Laurel 5-1 and dropping 6-0 to a powerful Billings Central team.

The first was notable for several reasons, one of which being Jason Schnackenberg scoring two goals and notching an assist on a recuperated Alfredo Ruiz-Pellegrin blast as well.

The second was that senior goalie Austin Nagle scored his first goal. Nagle was replaced with freshman Zander Peterson in goal, freeing Nagle up for midfield work. An assist from Jake Reny allowed Nagle’s shot.

“That’s the last time Austin will score in his high school career,” coach Charlie Webster laughed of his starting keeper.

Libby’s freshman starters have continued to play at a varsity level. Peterson in goal, Bohdan Yakovenko as defender and midfielder Johnny Davidson being just three examples from the Laurel game.

Davidson scored on one of senior defender Jake Reny’s two assists.

The Billings Central game was less favorable for the Loggers as the Rams shut down Libby’s chances early.

Conor Sheehy scored four goals and assisted Brandon Peterson on another for Billings in an even effort that dropped Libby to 2-3-0.

Nagle, back in goal, had 11 saves for Libby.

The Loggers face Columbia Falls on the road at 3 p.m. Saturday.
