Commissioners neither listening nor voting per their constituents, a reader suggests

Letter to the Editor,

The County Commissioners have done it again.

They have decided to go against the people that voted them into their office.  On Wednesday, Oct. 3, it was voted with a two-to-one vote to only fund the County Extension agent as a part-time position instead of full-time, a savings of $13,000.

The excuse they used was we need to make cuts somewhere.   This position is already budgeted for this fiscal year at full-time.  There were approximately 30 people at the meeting and everyone, except for the two Commissioners, was adamantly against this vote.  This essentially defunded this important position for the county.

Another important thing to notice in the budget for the coming year is that they voted to have a cost of living raise of 3 percent across the board for all county employees including themselves.  Does this sound like a cost-saving idea to the people of Lincoln County?  I think not.  To her credit, Marianne Roose was against this vote.

What is this county coming to where the children are not worth a measly $13,000 and at the same time the Commissioners give themselves a 3 percent raise?

This county does very little to help the children, but through the County Extension Office there are numerous programs to help and to guide our children.  This county is one of the highest in the state in drug abuse and school dropouts; and then they want to take away one more thing from our children.

It’s time for new Commissioners.
