Thomas Huchala, 87, formerly of Libby

Dr. Thomas James Huchala passed away peacefully Sept. 23, 2012. 

He was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Columbia Falls, Mont.  Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946. An expert marksman, he was awarded many honors including the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, and a Presidential Unit Citation.

Tom met Ember Wilson at a New Year’s Eve dance in Libby, and they married Sept. 1, 1951. In Fall 1954, the couple moved to Seattle so Tom could attend medical school at the University of Washington.

Tom practiced family medicine in Burien, Wash., for more than 50 years. He was honored with emeritus status from Highline Hospital after 45 years of service, and was a member of the Highline College Medical Advisory Group for more than 30 years.

Predeceased by his wife, Ember, Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Huchala, Jr. (Sheryl), two grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Oct. 1, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, followed by interment at Tahoma National Cemetery.
