Reader agrees with opinion supporting Veterans Memorial

| November 19, 2012 7:00 PM

Letter to the Editor,

I thoroughly agree with you, Matt Bunk, regarding your article in the Nov. 11 issue of The Western News and the location needed for a Veterans Memorial.

My husband, Harry, was a very well decorated 23-year veteran, Army, Navy and Air Force, and spent 3-1/2 years as a POW in the Philippines and Japan. I have been looking for such an opportunity to do something in his honor and memory and spoke with Terry Andreessen about making some sort of contribution, possibly a flag display, to the memorial he is working on.

I can think of no more appropriate place for such a memorial than our new, beautiful park which is sure to be very frequently used by many diverse groups and individuals.

All our veterans certainly deserve the best and most visible place possible for such a memorial.

I, for one, applaud the committee for coming up with such an appropriate place for the memorial and for the monument.

I have not yet met you, Mr. Bunk, but am a good friend of Mark and June McMahon, former publishers of The Western News, and am very sure they will concur with you on the plans of the Veterans Committee.
