Coleman E. Metts, 86, of Columbus, Ga.

Coleman Edward Metts, Sr., 86 of Columbus, Ga., a resident of Brookside Glen passed away Sunday, Oct.  14, 2012, at the Columbus Hospice House.

Funeral for Metts was conducted at Britt David Baptist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. 

The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road Columbus, Ga.

Coleman was born in Bonneau, S.C., to the late Hampton Morgan Metts and Lessie Ruth Metts. 

Coleman served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. Later, he became a fireman and rose to the rank of station captain at Fort Benning, Ga. 

Metts was a Baptist by faith and very active at Britt David Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, church treasurer, and was a member for more than 60 years.

Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Lillian Bowman; his brother Hampton M. Metts Jr. and his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Metts. 

Coleman Metts is survived by two daughters June Metts Hurston (John) of Opelika, Ala.; Bette Metts Zettel (Steve) of Libby; son Coleman Edward Metts. Jr.(Leigh) of Waverly Hall, Ga.
