During the District 4 work meeting Monday that precedes its monthly meeting, board members agreed to move forward with a resolution to ask the public for a tax increase that will further fund the district for $350,000.

The resolution will be voted upon during the board’s November meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

“We looked at possibly a $300,000 levy, but we feel like it was cutting it too close,” said Board President Tracy Comeau, explaining the $350,000 figure. Comeau, an accountant, chairs the Budget Committee.

During the work meeting, board members made it clear they want to look at all aspects of the district’s finances before cutting teachers and staff.

Board members Melinda LaGoy and Amy Fantozzi urged Superintendent K.W. Maki to get building value estimates for three district properties, which include Asa Wood, the 34-acre tract behind the McGrade Center and Central School.

Board members Les Nelson and Bruce Sickler countered, saying selling property is “one-time money” and not a solution.
