Libby Tennis: Boys defeat Columbia Falls in tight match; Girls fall

| May 1, 2012 3:40 PM

The test of competitiveness is whether an athlete can rise up to meet those challenges when rivals are as good or even better.

According to coach Kyle Hannah, Libby High School’s tennis coach, that’s what happened Tuesday.

“I’m ecstatic with the way the kids played,” Hannah said. “I can’t say enough about these kids. Even the girls played well. We’re inexperienced, but we’re getting better every day.”

The boys edged Columbia Falls 4-3 while the girls dropped their match 2-5.

Hannah praised No. 1 singles player Jason Schnackenberg.

“Jason played well,” Hannah said. “He usually starts out hot and then lets up a little. Today, he finished strong.”

Schnackenberg defeated Brian Marcille 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

The Loggers also won in Nos. 3 and 4 singles and third doubles to secure the team victory.

The No. 3 doubles match, featuring Jake Reny and Adam Kirschenmann outlasted their Wildcat rivals in a three-set tiebreaker in which the Libby boys won 7-6 (7-3).
