Blames stalemate on Mayor Banning

Letter to the Editor,

Although I am the President/Chairman of the Troy City Council, I am writing this letter on my own and not on behalf of the council.

Recently, statements have been made that the City Council is considering the elimination of the Police Department and dis-incorporation of the City of Troy. Those two statements are untrue.

The council has never discussed or considered such actions. Mayor Banning has stated that he had tried to work with the previous council to move the city forward but that the members refused to work with him.

This also is false.

During the first six months of the mayor’s administration another council member resigned.

All stated that the reason for their resignation was the unwillingness of the mayor to work with others.

Mayor Banning is like a dictator in the way he runs his office. If you agree with him and do what he wants, he is friendly and pleasant to work with.

If you disagree with him, he becomes unfriendly and unwilling to deal with you. He is not a good leader.

A good leader would sit down with the council and attempt to negotiate a mutually agreeable settlement of a dispute. He won’t do that.

It is either his way or the highway. I have come to the conclusion that it is not in the best interest of Troy to have two more years of Don Banning as mayor. That is why I support his recall from office and encourage others in Troy to do the same.
