Annual Bee held at the Troy Auditorium Feb. 21

Olivia Kapan, a fifth-grade student from the Libby Elementary won the Lincoln County Spelling Bee by spelling the words jambalaya and mortgage.

Ronald Higgins, Lincoln County Superintendent, served as Master of Ceremonies and presented the awards; Kay Randall, the Troy Morrison Elementary Librarian, was the pronouncer.; judges were Kathy Cotten of Morrison Elementary (Math Aide), Jeff Hawk of Morrison Elementary (Teacher), and Jennifer Richardson of Morrison Elementary (Computer Lab Technician).

• The first place winner was awarded a $450 gift card for iTunes and a Lincoln County Spelling Bee Champion plaque.

• Second place received a $25 gift card for iTunes along with a Lincoln County Spelling Bee Runner Up plaque.

• Third Place winner also received a $15 gift card for iTunes.

The Lincoln County Superintendent’s office also provides the student who attends the State Bee with a check to help with travel expenses.

Olivia Kapan will represent Lincoln County at the State Spelling Bee in Billings, Mont., on March 24.
