Health Department slates Pertussis clinic June 25

| June 13, 2012 11:44 AM

Because of the recent whooping cough (Pertussis) cases in Lincoln County, the Health Department will be offering an adult Tdap vaccine clinic on Monday, June 25.

The Tdap shot, which will be given from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., contains Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis.

“We have recently received Tdap vaccine from the Montana Immunization Program for those adults who have contact with infants and who are uninsured or have insurance with a high co-pay/deductible or that do not cover vaccines,” said Marci Johnson, county Communicable Diseases director.

There is no charge for this vaccine.

For those who do not meet the guidelines for the state-supplied vaccine, the department also will be offering Tdap for $35.

There will be no insurance billing for this shot, but the department will provide patients with a receipt that they may send to their insurance.

The classic signs of pertussis are a paroxysmal cough, inspiratory whoop, and vomiting after coughing.

The incubation period is typically seven to 10 days in infants or young children.
