Jean E. Guffey, 78, of Libby

Jean Ellen Guffey, 78, of Libby died Friday May 11, 2012, at her home in Libby from natural causes.  

She was born April 11, 1934, in La Junta, Colo., to Thomas and Hazel (Henebergh) Atkins.  She moved to Needles, Calif., as an infant.  

Jean grew up and attended school in Needles, graduating from Needles High School with the class of 1952. She married David Guffey in 1953.  

David was a Marine, so the family moved to numerous places, but Needles was always home.  

Jean moved to Libby in 1988.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, bowling and dancing.  She was known as “Jean, Jean the dancing machine”.  

Survivors include her three children John Guffey and wife Cindie of Needles, Calif.; Dennis Guffey of Kingman, Ariz.; and Nancy Fohs of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a brother John Atkins and wife Williene of Genoa, Nev.; eight grandchildren, John Jr.,  Joseph, Michelle, Thomas Walter,  Janelle, Billy, Matthew and Wesley; and nine great-grandchildren.  

Private family services will be held.  

Local arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
