Collision injures two, claims one life

A head-on collision Friday afternoon, involving two vehicles several miles west of Troy, resulted in the injuries of two males and the death of a female.

Stan Potter, 72 of Libby was driving eastbound on Highway 2 at approximately 2 p.m. Friday with his wife and passenger Mavis Potter, 71.

Potter was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria at the time of the accident.

Headed westbound on Highway 2, near mile-marker No. 10, driver Henry Lasala, 73 of Troy attempted to turn left from the highway onto Timber Lane in his 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Lasala turned left in front of the oncoming vehicle driven by Potter, causing the two vehicles to collide. 

All three occupants incurred injuries in the collision and were transported to St. John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby.

Mavis Potter’s injuries were extensive, she died several hours after the accident.

The occupants in the vehicles wore seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Intoxicants and/or alcohol are not a factor in this investigation.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Neil Duram is the lead investigator in this case.
