Robert E. Todd, 89, of Libby

Robert E. Todd , 89, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, after an extended illness.  

He was born in New York City on Nov. 8, 1923.  He spent his early childhood near Williams, Ariz.  He then moved to Somerville, N.J.  

He entered the U.S. Navy in October 1941 working in submarine and surface-ship repair before being accepted into the NROTC and Naval Aviation Flight Training programs.  

Robert was honorably discharged in April 1946.  He attended universities of Richmond, Duke and North Carolina, graduating with a bachelor of science degree and honors in physics and math. He took sufficient post-graduate classes in engineering to qualify as a professional engineer.  

After several years of employment at T.A. Edison, Inc. as a product engineer, he transferred to U.S. Army Armaments Research and Development Command, retiring as a director in 1977.

Robert has since lived on a ranch outside Troy. He was a charter member of McCormick Volunteer Fire Department, chaired the Cougar Ridge Water Quality Association, and with wife Geraldine, organized a petition drive in 1995 to secure single-party phone service in the area.

He is survived by Geraldine (Geri), his wife of 64 years, children Brian and wife Vicki, Deborah Allison and husband Patrick, Eileen Allen and husband John, Pamela Davis, and Kevin, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law Frank Davis and sister Jane Morrison.  

Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Troy at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory in Libby.
