Gerald L. Palmer, 70, formerly of Libby

Gerald Lee Palmer, 70, of Portland, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.

Gerald was born on Aug. 23, 1942, to Donald and Iona Palmer in Turlock, Calif. 

He attended Bob Jones University before joining the Air Force in 1962. He was Airman Second-Class and was fluent in Chinese. 

He served in Vietnam from 1963 to 1965 until honorable release from duty.  

After service, he married Lisa Chieh Hsieh in 1965. He later married Darlene Palmer in 1974. 

They were married for 34 years until Darlene passed away on April 19, 2009.

Gerald spent much of his life in Libby where he worked at The Western News as a graphic designer and pressman. 

When he was not working, he loved spending time outdoors with his children. He was most fond of fishing and hiking. He was a man of deep devotion to Jesus Christ. He was a man of the Word and a faithful example for us all.

Gerald is survived by four children: Steve Scott of Atlanta, Ga., Terry (Teresa) Palmer of Portland, N.D., Tom Palmer of Austin, Texas, and Lisa (Kevin) Juliano of Rancho Cordova, Calif.: sister Sheryl Palmer Eckardt of Duluth, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Chris Correa, Letisha Juliano, Timothy Juliano, Joseph Juliano, Dennis Juliano, Michael Scott, Morgan Palmer, Kade Palmer, Isaiah Palmer, Maggie Palmer, Holly Palmer; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wives Lisa and Darlene.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, with a public prayer service at the Baker Funeral Home.    

Funeral was 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, N.D.

Burial was at Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, N.D.
