It was like a trip down memory lane, the Heritage Museum’s opening Saturday.

As if all the sights and sounds of the museum itself were not enough, there were activities outside as well.

There were indigenous wildlife preserved — everything from the smallest hummingbird to the massive grizzly bear that keeps sentry above.

“It’s preserving local history,” said Laurie Mari, treasurer and exhibit chairperson.

“It’s impressive. I feel like we’re preserving a way of life. I think it’s important for people to see where we come from. Otherwise, we’ll forget it.”

On Saturday, there were musicians and Indian game exhibits, as well as a myriad of historical data for the inquisitive.

And for all the logging and mining exhibits within the museum, there are wonderfully interesting items outside on the grounds, such as the Miner’s Cabin, various post-mounted drill presses, the wooden pipe with its tongue-in-groove construction used at the J. Neils Lumber Yard with its metal straps.

The Heritage Museum is now open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 31.
