| July 20, 2011 11:02 PM

George Allen Thorsrud, 54, went on to another plane of existence on June 24, 2011, from lung cancer at his home in Libby.

He was two weeks shy of his 55th birthday.

George was born July 7, 1956, in Butte, Mont., to George and Darlene Shaw. He attended several schools until the family landed in Polson, where he graduated from Polson High School.  After a short stint in the U.S. Navy, he made his home in Libby.

He worked at various occupations, most notably in the ARCO mine in Troy, Mont.  He also worked in the mountains surrounding Libby.  He was a mountain man who love the outdoors more than toiling at a dead end job.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Shaw, Darlene and Einar Thorsrud.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Shaw.

He left behind two of his greatest treasures, sons Jerry and Tommy, as well as step-sons Allen, Jimmy and Jesse McMillan, step-mother Susie Thorsrud of Polson, siblings Dan (Shirley) Shaw of Wasilla, Alaska, Doug Shaw of Libby, Bev (John) Barre of Libby, Dorothy (Mike Decker) Shaw of Polson, Eric (Lisa) Thorsrud of Emmendingen, Germany, David Thorsrud of San Francisco, Calif., Mark (Christie) Thorsrud of Canby, Ore., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request no formal services will be held at this time.
