Taking control of the tempo early, the Libby High School boys basketball team rolled to a nonconference victory on Tuesday night over Eureka, 51-31.

The Loggers shot out to a 17-point lead by halftime with a strong offensive attack, exceptional defense and a press that created havoc for the opponent.

Kelly May and Garrett Craig, Libby’s two primary long-range shooters, combined for 29 points. May hit for 17, which included a trio of three-pointers. Craig scored 12 points with nine of those coming on three three-pointers.

Libby led 14-8 through the game’s first eight minutes before putting 20 on the board in the second for a 34-17 advantage at the break. The Loggers then held their ground through the second half to end up winning by 20.

Eureka managed only single digits in all four quarters. Andrew Derby led the Lions with nine points.

Libby (2-1, 7-5) gets back into Northwestern A action on Saturday with a home game against Whitefish. The varsity boys will play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls at 6 p.m., at Ralph Tate Gymnasium.
