Thelma Lee Fansler

Thelma Lee Fansler, 94, went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2011 at Libby.

A longtime resident of Amarillo, Texas, Thelma moved to Libby in 2006 to be closer to family.

Thelma was born in Collin County, Texas, to Owen and Maud Blevins on Jan. 29, 1917. She was the fourth of eight children. She was raised on a farm and had close relationships with her siblings throughout their lives.

After attending Wayland Baptist College in Plainsview, Texas, she moved to Amarillo where she married Max Fansler on April 5, 1944.

Thelma was a bookkeeper by profession working for Klock Construction Co., Boren Construction Co. and Cunningham Floral as well as other businesses in Amarillo. After retiring she served by preparing tax forms for seniors.

Longtime active members of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, she and Max had the joy of sponsoring a family from Laos in the Amarillo community. Thelma enjoyed crafts, reading, gardening and camping. She and Max took long trips around the United States, including Alaska and Montana. They also traveled to Australia and New Zealand with Max’s Army Air Corps reunion.

Thelma was known for her intelligence and for her gentle acceptance of all of life’s trials. Her friends and family will miss her but remember the precious memories they share.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers, as well as her husband. She is survived by her sons, Bill and wife Mary of Libby and Owen and wife Linda of North Pole, Alaska; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas, on April 14 with Chester O’Brien officiating. Interment was at Memory Gardens. Funeral arrangements were through Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby and Schooler Funeral Home in Amarillo.
