The Libby High School football team wrapped up a four-week road trip and evened its record on Friday night by downing conference rival Whitefish, 38-25.

The Logger offense attacked both through the air and on the ground with 484 total yards to keep the Bulldog defense on its heels. Still, Libby led only 18-13 early in the fourth quarter following a 40-yard TD pass play by Whitefish.

Over the final 10 minutes, Libby scored 20 points – all on runs. Quarterback Kelly May scored on a two-yard run and then Colby Rybar found the end zone one minute apart on runs of 14 and 39 yards.

Rybar finished with 112 yards rushing on 12 attempts – an average of 9.3 yards per carry. Corey Chapman and Justin Thrailkill each had 58 yards. As a team, the Loggers rushed for 274 yards and averaged 7.2 per attempt.

Libby’s passing game was also looking good with May completing 13-of-20 passes for 206 yards. Kody Berget was the top weapon receiving with four catches for 114 yards.

Whitefish took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter but Libby responded to go up 18-7 by intermission. Rybar scored the first of his three TDs on a one-yard run with about four minutes left in the first.

Early in the second, May and Berget connected on a 76-yard TD pass. Chapman scored late in the half on a 10-yard run.

Whitefish pulled to within 18-13 early in the fourth on the long pass play only to see the Loggers pile on more points.

Libby goes to 1-1 in the conference, 3-3 overall. Whitefish stands at 0-2 in the conference, 1-5 overall.

The Loggers play host to Ronan on Friday for homecoming.
