Dwane D. Monroe

Dwane D. Monroe passed away Sept. 29, 2010 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center due to complications from acute mesothelioma.

He was born Oct. 29, 1938 in Missoula to Steve and Mable Monroe. He grew up and attended school in Missoula and Hamilton. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-63. He married Diane France in 1963. They later divorced and he moved to Libby in 1972 where he met and married Karen Carter Lee.

He worked for W.R. Grace for 25 years where he did a number of jobs including shift supervisor at the mill. After Grace shut down, he owned and operated Equity Dairy Products for six years before he sold it and went to work for Lincoln County.

His hobbies included motorcycles, snowmobiling, cutting firewood, fishing and hunting, woodworking, camping, boating and golfing. He had a shop in his basement where he enjoyed working on numerous home projects. He took up golf and joined the Cabinet View Country Club where he played regularly. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Darell; and daughter, Geraldine Kirkendahl.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of  Libby; sister, Shirley Maydole and husband Wesley of Hamilton; daughters, Jeannie Emmeric of Sumner, Wash., and husband Art; and Jacki Sverdrup and husband Jim of Townsend; sons, Jim Lee and wife Debbie of Gig Harbor, Wash.; Mark Lee and wife Shelly of Chatteroy, Wash.; and Dan Lee and wife Paige of Thompson Falls; grandchildren, Zach Sverdrup, Tim Lee, JoAnn McCollum, Dawn Wahl, Jennifer Wahl, Bonnie Wells, Katelin Johnson, David Lee, Chelsea Sverdrup, Courtney Christensen, Nick Lee, Jacob Lee, Justin Lee and Meagan Lee. His great-grandchildren include Heidi, Joleah, Olivia, Lillian, Ameelia, Eros and Apollo.

Services were Oct. 4 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors followed at the City of Libby Cemetery. Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
