Erik Leigh of the Lincoln County Environmental Health Department said Tuesday morning that a Stage 2 air advisory remains in effect for the Libby area.

"Our air quality too a dive last night and concentrations jumped way up this morning," Leigh said. "We will continue to monitor it … don't be surprised if we move to a Stage 3 alert later today if ventilation doesn't improve."

Leigh said a Stage 2 advisory means that officials expect a continued rise in particulate concentrations and a potential excedence. Valley residents are asked to not burn "stick" wood stoves unless it is their one and only source of heat.

"If you have any other source of heat please use that," Leigh said. "Pellet stoves may be used in any stage of air advisory or alert."
