Cross-country skiingunder way near Libby

The Kootenai Cross-Country Ski Club

announced this week that the trails at South Flower Ski Course are

now open. Organizers said that there are about 10 miles of trails

groomed for both classic and skate skiing. The trails are

maintained by club volunteers.

There is no charge for use of the ski

trails.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the club will

begin hosting its popular Saturday lantern-light skiing. From 6

p.m., until about 7:30, Shorty’s Loop will be lighted with propane

lanterns. The loop is about a half-mile long.

For those who need to warm up, the

picnic shelter will have a fire along with goodies and hot

drinks.

To find the course from Highway 2, turn

right onto Shaugnessy Road, bear left at the top of the hill at the

Snowshoe Road intersection. Turn right onto Granite Lake Road and

then onto South Flower Road to the right. The course is 1.2 miles

up South Flower Road.

The road is gated from 6 p.m. until

daylight except on Saturday nights for lantern-light skiing.
