The Lincoln County Public Libraries announced the expansion of its downloadable audiobook capabilities.

Library card holders can check out and download digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting www.lincolncountylibraries.com or www.montanalibrary2go.org .

Patrons may browse the growing collection of best-selling and classic titles. To check out, users will need a valid Lincoln County library card, a personal computer and an Internet connection. From the libraries’ website, patrons will be directed to MontanaLibrary2Go, where they will be able to install Overdrive Media Console, the free software needed to use the downloadable audiobooks.

Once downloaded, the digital titles may be enjoyed on the computer or transferred to a supported device, such as an MP3 player or iPod. Many audio titles can also be burned to CD. Patrons may browse, select titles, and place holds just like with the regular collection.

“The audio collection is heavily used at all three libraries. Expanding the selection through downloadable audio is a cost effective way of meeting our patrons’ needs,” said Sami Pierson, library director.

The Lincoln County Public Libraries is partnering with other Montana libraries such as Great Falls Public Library, the Lewis & Clark Library in Helena, and Glacier County Library through the Montana State Library’s pilot project, MontanaLibrary2Go.

“This project is another great example of how the libraries in Montana work together to better serve the public,” Pierson said.

The Lincoln County Public Libraries will be holding trainings on how to use the new service in all three locations. Training in Libby will be on March 3 at 6 p.m.; in Eureka on March 4 at 5 p.m.; and in Troy on March 11 at 5 p.m.

Attendees will be eligible to win an MP3 player with which to enjoy the new service.
