Letter: Grimes will help battle insurance rates

Dear Editor:

Please join me in supporting Duane Grimes for state auditor.

One reason I support him is his position on Montana’s unisex insurances laws. Montana is only state to have unisex insurance laws. I was involved in the issue at the time when the legislature passed this law years ago. I understood the intentions of the group involved were to help women.

In reality it has hurt all Montanans. It caused a large number of insurance companies to pull out of Montana, rather than re-writing all their existing plans for such a small population.

In turn, this lack of competition has caused very high insurance rates for all Montanans. Ask yourself why in a state with less than 1 million people we have car insurance rates as high as in major cities.

I have listened to Duane Grimes explain his views on this issue. He understands what a deterrent this law is to our state. He will work to change this law. He understands the role of the state auditor and what he can do to help us all in our everyday lives and in our pocketbooks.

Vote Grimes for auditor.
