Thumbs Up …

Both Libby and Troy deserve a pat on the back for staging exceptional homecoming celebrations this fall. The sounds of chainsaws must’ve echoed in the minds of many with all of the Logger activities that went on that week. The fireworks were a fun addition to the Friday night football game. Over in Troy, it was easy to see that a lot of thought and artistic talent went into the class floats. And the lighting of the “T” at halftime just might’ve provided a little extra motivation for the grid warriors.

The volunteer fire departments at Libby, Troy and Yaak are all making improvements in their quest to provide high-quality emergency response to this area. In Libby, firefighters have staged two on-site, live training exercises involving structure fires. Learning in such a manner goes a long way to educate inexperienced volunteers. Over in Troy, the addition of two satellite stations in the rural district will only better response times in critical situations. And up at the Yaak, the fire department rebuilt its station after it burned to the ground earlier this year.

It’s been quite a while since the Troy High School football team found itself in contention for a playoff berth. Following last week’s 33-0 homecoming victory over Plains-Hot Springs, the Trojans headed Wednesday up to Eureka in a quest to remain unbeaten in the conference. Since that game was played after the newspaper’s Wednesday presstime, we don’t know the outcome as of this writing. But win or lose, simply being in this position in the standings this late in the season deserves recognition.
