Letter: Windom's public service appreciated

| November 19, 2008 11:00 PM

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank Rita Windom for the extraordinary service she has provided Lincoln County during her tenure in office.

She constantly thought of ways to better the welfare of its citizens. She has also been deeply interested in the citizens of Libby and sought diligently to promote asbestos cleanup and the betterment of those afflicted with asbestos-related disease.

Because of her devotion to duty, she didn’t have an ideal home life.  Rather, she attended meeting after meeting to make sure she was informed and could present her views about topics of importance.

Rita’s insight, intelligence, wisdom, creativity and dedication to excellence stood out to those who knew her. So did her many acts of kindness.

Rita did not seek the limelight, only the results of her efforts. On the other hand, she could be tough when she needed to, but never in a mean spirited way. Had Rita been a lawyer, I would have confidently sought her quality services and sound advice.

Fortunately, Rita can now focus on a less stressful life with her devoted husband, Bob, who, although missing her presence for much of the past few years, nevertheless supported her efforts to make Lincoln County a better place to live.

Libby and Lincoln County are losing an outstanding public servant who spent much of the past several months looking out for the interests of the public while knowingly sacrificing her own health.

Thank you, Rita. May you be amply blessed for your toils on our behalf.

Chuck Evans, Libby
