Letter: Stupid driving becoming the norm

| November 6, 2008 11:00 PM

Dear Editor:

On Oct. 26, I witnessed the most unsafe and ignorant act of driving that I have seen in many years.

At about 5:55 p.m., the Libby Fire Department was responding to a call and coming up on the intersection of Mineral Avenue and Highway 2. They were making a left turn and as is taught in the driver's handbook (which some cannot or have not read) and in driver's ed, some idiots (I use that term loosely) blew the intersection in front of the responding fire trucks with no regard to the saftey of anyone around.

I find that this is becoming more and more the 'norm' with the drivers who don't care to who or what is running with sirens and lights. Most 'normal' people pull over and stop or stay put at the lights until the emergency vehicles are through.

Not so on this night as I counted at least four cars blow through the intersection with the first tanker and another two that pulled in front of the second tanker. To top it off, a third emergency vehicle was nearly hit by another 'safe' driver.

The ones that blew the intersection must have no regard to the lives that they put at risk if they had been hit. Of course they would blame the city, county and state for their stupidity and total disregard of traffic saftey.

Stupid question, to those who drove through ' do you care? I don't think so; safe driving skills, I don't think so; think your cool, not in this life and of life, don't care.

Call me crazy, but seeing these people makes me believe that if anyone gets in the way of their driving, well let's say that, something awaits those who tempt it. What if it was your house on fire and you caused one of the trucks to roll, or even worse, they hit you and you die. Of course you who blew the intersection, you don't care or worry about being safe. You have a car.

Welcome to Libby. Drive at your own risk. Sad, so sad.
