The Lewis Meyer Memorial Softball Tournament will be held 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Roosevelt Park in Troy.

Proceeds from concession and T-shirts sales will benefit a scholarship fund for Troy Junior-Senior High School students.

“We just wanted to do this to honor him since he was such a devoted Troy sports fan,” said Julie Meyer, who is Lewis Meyer’s daughter-in-law. “We wanted to help provide some more scholarships and Lewis would really like that we’re doing this.”

He passed away Sept. 30 at age 76.

“We still have room for some teams if people are interested,” said coordinator Bonnie Price, who hopes to have a 14-team tournament. “Trophy and T-shirts for the winning team and MVP awards will be distributed.”

Many of the teams participating in the tournament are from the adult co-ed league, which is scheduled to start Wednesday, June 11. Eight teams will play every Wednesday night at 6:45.

There is a $175 entry fee. If interested, call Price at 295-4773.
