Lincoln County Credit Union in Libby recently announced that it plans to break ground on its new home on the corner of Commerce Avenue and Sixth Street this coming spring.

“We’re very excited,” said Bill Bischoff, chairman of the Libby County Credit Union’s board of directors. “We’ve outgrown our current location because local service, relevant products and local ownership matter to community residents.

“Our members and the community have been a great support to us, and we wanted to reinvest in our community, so we’ve put a lot of thought into making our new building a great resource for everyone,” Bischoff added.

Officials said the building will represent the surrounding area and offer a community room as well as a small consumer resource area with two computers and Internet access. It will also provide much-needed space and more convenient access.

Lincoln County Credit Union has been providing financial services to community residents for more than 51 years and prides itself as a source of financial education. The credit union also plans to support local stores and businesses during the construction phase.

“It is LCCU’s desire and intent to hire community residents and also purchase the majority of the building supplies locally,” president Chari Lucas said. “There will only be a few exceptions that will require us to make purchases outside of our community.”

Boulware Construction has been selected as the general contractor for the project. LCCU will be putting the various components of the project out to bid to local pre-qualified sub-contractors in January.

Lucas said that before deciding to build a new facility, the credit union’s board and management worked closely with Jackola Engineering and Architecture to explore all the possible options for adding the needed space. Once the decision was made to build, Lucas said LCCU then explored land options before purchasing the section of property at the corner of Commerce and Sixth.
