Lionel Dexter 'Dex' Shaurette

Lionel Dexter “Dex” Shaurette, 91, died Feb. 3, 2008, in Spokane, Wash.

He was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Libby, Mont. He attended Libby schools, Wentworth Military Academy and Washington State University.

Mr. Shaurette married Lois Eames in 1938 and they had one son, Dale. He was a member of the business community of Libby for decades as owner of The Kootenai Mercantile and working in the retail department of St. Regis.

Mr. Shaurette was active in the Lions Club and the Masons. In the 1950s, he accompanied the White House Christmas tree from Libby to Washington, D.C., and appeared on the show “What’s My Line?” He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the bowling team “Four Ditches and a Dry.”

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Lynne Shaurette of Belfry, Mont.; two grandchildren, Lisa Fallon of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jim Shaurette of Spokane; and six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Connor, Thomas, Sophie, Anna and Sarah.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dale, and his wife.

Services will be held Aug. 15 at 11 a.m., at the City of Libby Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home.
