Letter: Homeowner asks for return of lawn ornament

Dear Editor:

Recently someone decided to steal – that is, take something from someone without permission – a very special solar butterfly from our front yard.

We wonder … was it a dare? Was it a challenge to see if anyone would catch you? Was someone bored or just plain mean-spirited? Did it ever occur to someone that the lawn ornament could be there for a special reason?

You see, the little solar butterfly was sent to me by a friend out-of-state at a time I was at low ebb and needed some brightness! Unfortunately, the brightness was taken before I got the chance to enjoy it for long.

To whoever took it may I say, you took it by cover of darkness and you can return it the same way. And by the way, the other homeowner who reported theft of a lawn ornament would probably like theirs back, too.

Do the right thing. Return them and steal no more.
