Janice M. Metz

Janice M. Metz, 73, of Troy, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at the Libby Care Center.

She was born on May 15, 1934 in Haines, Ore. to Calvin and Helen Coffee Christman.

Janice grew up and attended school in North Powder, Ore. and graduated from North Powder High School in 1952.

She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1976. She taught 7th grade science and social studies in Copeland and Hall Mountain, Idaho.

She also taught in Umatilla, Ore.; Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and Big Piney, Wyo. before retiring from teaching in 1983. She moved to Troy in 1994 and lived up Rabbit O'Brian Road.

She enjoyed writing, poetry, current events and gardening. She was a hard working, loyal educator and a loving and caring wife and mother.

Her son Keith Metz preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children: August Metz III of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Katherine Meyer and her husband Scott of Newport, Ore.; Jeff Metz and his wife Linda of Sandpoint, Idaho; Brian Metz and his wife Patricia of Troy; Amy Gartski and her husband Scott of Missoula; Karen Martin of Mountain Home, Idaho; husband August G. Metz II of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Bruce Christman of Baker City, Ore.; and two sisters Carol of North Powder, Ore. and Mary of Los Angeles, Calif.

Services will be in Oregon. Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.

Memorials may be given to the Troy Senior Citizen Center.
