Lorraine A. Brown died Saturday, Oct. 20 at Libby Care Center. She was born in Troy at the family home to Edward J. and Leona Weidner on Aug. 30, 1921. After graduating from Troy High School in 1939, Lorraine attended Montana State University (now the University of Montana) in Missoula. She returned home to marry Jackson L. Brown. They were married on Aug. 31, 1941.

Lorraine worked in the family grocery business as a young woman. After the beginning of WWII, Lorraine followed Jack to his various U.S. duty stations until he was shipped overseas. When they were in Virginia she worked in the tobacco fields.

After returning to Troy while waiting for Jack, she worked at Thom's Drug Store. Years later she worked at the Trojan Lanes.

She belonged to many civic organizations and served leadership roles in each of the Order of Eastern Star, PTA, and Takima Club.

Lorraine was active in the Episcopal Women's Guild volunteering many hours to serve the church as needed, including organist for the Sunday services.

Lorraine loved her family and friends showing her love for them with her love for knitting. Many people received lovely hand-knitted afghans, sweaters, and baby blankets. She used her knitting skill to furnish stocking caps and mittens to the schools in Troy and Bonners Ferry, Idaho for many children.

Lorraine always loved sports. She fondly remembered playing high school basketball, bowled for many years in league bowling, played league and recreational golf and was an avid fan for Troy athletes of all ages and sports. Other hobbies included her grandchildren, cooking, playing the piano and organ, and traveling.

Lorraine was preceded in death by Jack her husband of 61 years, her parents, and older brother Gale Weidner. She is survived by her three daughters of Troy: Wanda Brown and her husband Tom, Leone Harner, and Dedi Coy; grandchildren: Archibald Hamer and his fiancee Catherine, Emily Dorigo and her husband Sean, Isaac Coy and his wife Megan, Hanna Coy, and Elise Coy; great-grandchildren: Dominic and Allison Dorigo. They will dearly miss her.

The family will be celebrating Lorraine's life with a gathering at the Troy Senior Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The family requests that any memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choosing since Lorraine supported a wide variety of charities.
