Loggers take down the Vikings in Saturday soccer

| October 11, 2007 12:00 AM

The Loggers swept the competition during their homecoming week.

The boys soccer team played against the Bigfork Vikings Saturday, winning 3-1.

Riley Hoyer scored a pair of second-half goals to break a 1-all tie as Northern A No. 2 seed Libby finished its regular season with a 5-2-1 conference mark.

Jay Rosencrantz gave the Loggers their first lead in the seventh minute before Roland Benedict tied the match in the 31st.

Libby out-shot Bigfork 11-6 as Loggers keeper Tad Downey made seven saves.

"We moved the ball around well," Libby coach Mike Wickstrom said. "We possessed better than our first outing with Bigfork. We obviously had our hands full with (Benedict) — he had a couple good looks that just missed — but we had a couple great keeper saves that kept us in it."

Bigfork finished its season with a 2-5-1 conference record, just missing out on a playoff berth.

The boys will begin their first round of playoffs at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Corvallis.
