Lady Loggers denied a win against Bigfork

| October 11, 2007 12:00 AM

The Lady Logger Soccer team ended their regular season with a defeat by the Bigfork Valkaries at home on Saturday.

The Vals' offense started the game quickly, gaining control and pressuring the Logger defense. But the Loggers turned up the intensity to match the Vals. The Loggers gained control of the game, and as the first half ended, the Logger's seven shots seemed to foretell a victory.

The Vals continued to pressure and a slip up in the Logger defense resulted in another goal in the 39th minute.

The Loggers came out in the second half determined to win, but the game continued to be evenly matched.

Unfortunately the Vals slipped through the Logger defense to score in the 61st minute. The Loggers struggled to come back and score, and with substitutes Larona Luscher, Chelsea Ahart, and Paige Ward picking up the pressure, it seemed possible. But none of the Loggers' 5 shots in the second half struck the back of the net and the game ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Goalkeeper Audra Poppen ended the game with four saves. The Loggers end the season with a 4-3-1 record in conference play and a 7-4-1 overall, managing to secure second place in their conference for the first time. The Loggers head to Stevensville on Saturday for the first round of state playoffs starting at 2 p.m.
