Jerome (Jerry) Nelson

Jerome (Jerry) Nelson, 71, died Dec. 11 at his home in Libby. He was born in Little Falls, Minn. on Oct. 2, 1936 to Walter and Ruth (Bjorklund) Nelson and was raised and educated in that area.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1955, serving until being honorably discharged.

Following his discharge from active duty, he served with the Army Reserves in Minnesota.

Jerry came to Montana in the early 1970s where he had been a longtime employee of the St. Regis Paper Company and later, Champion International, working mainly as an engineer. He was preceded in death by his wife Susie and brother-in-law Lowell Lawson.

Survivors include his children: Jeff Hodge of Libby, Erik Lawson of Missoula, Linda Berreman of Libby, Valerie Nelson, and Troy Nelson of Little Falls, Minn., Kelly Nelson of New Brighton, Minn. and step-daughter Mary Olson of Randell, Minn.; brothers Walter Nelson of Denver, Colo., Don Nelson and Gary Nelson of Little Falls, Minn., James Nelson of Fredrick, Mass., Duane Nelson of Hinkly, Minn., Gerold Nelson of Bonmont, Texas; and sister-in-law Jan Lawson, also of Libby. Private arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Homes and Crematory.
