Earle Winfrey

Former Libby Mayor Earle D. Winfrey, 80, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at his home in Boise, Idaho.

Earle was born in Whitman, Mo., on April 10, 1926, to Earle and Mary Phillips Winfrey.

He graduated from Libby High School in 1944.

A World War II veteran, Earl saw combat in Belgium and Germany while in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge.

After being discharged from the Army, Earle married the former Alice McRell in 1947.

They raised their family in Libby, where they owned Libby Floral and Gift Shop for 17 years. Earle served as a city councilman and then as Libby mayor.

After working as a safety engineer during construction of Libby Dam, Earle moved to Boise, where he retired as contract administrator for Morrison Knudson's railroad division.

After retirement he became a volunteer for St. Luke's Hospital.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. where he had many close friends and served as deacon and elder.

Earle is survived by his wife; daughters Patrice Roberts and her husband, John, and Mary Siewert and her husband, Mike; grandchildren Peter, Timothy, Keri, and Shane and his wife, Inga; and great-grandchildren Bjossi, Sunna and Shane.

A viewing was held Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Summers Funeral Homes' Boise Chapel. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Memorial services will follow.
