Robert Siefke

Robert W. "Bob" Siefke, 86, formerly of Libby, died of natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at a Great Falls nursing home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Oram, Wash., to Otto and Artensy Mae Hahn Siefke. His family moved to Libby, where he attended school.

He worked in Libby, then worked in the shipyards in Bremerton, Wash. He joined the Navy in 1945, and served in Okinawa and the Philippines before his discharge. He returned to Libby and worked as a millwright until retiring in 1985.

He served as union president of the Lumber Workers and Laborers Union of the AFL-CIO at the lumber mill in Libby. He enjoyed going to garage sales, and plastic canvas and woodworking.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Harriett and Ben Smith of Arizona and Montana and Sherry and Bill Smith of Great Falls; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Siefke, three daughters, Marie Siefke, Carol Siefke and Irma Roberts; and 12 brothers and sisters.
