Kenneth "Jack" Hett, 83, a retired Presbyterian minister, died April 16, 2006, at Bull Lake.

Jack was born to Norman and Elva Hett on March 5, 1923, in Marion, Kan.

He was married to Dolores Kathryn Joy at the Troy Methodist Church on Dec. 4, 1953.

Jack was an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church U.S. A. and served churches in Oregon, Indiana, Wyoming and Montana throughout his life.

He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America from 1936 until the day he died. He was an Eagle Scout and initiated or participated in scout troops in every location where he lived. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for life-long commitment to Scouting on Feb. 10, 1990, by the Central Wyoming Council.

At age 58 he trained to become a member of the EMT squad in Shoshone, Wyo., and remained active with the squad in Troy.

In retirement, Jack loved to play Santa at the Holly Pines Christmas Tree Farm in Bryant, Ind., every Christmas season while visiting his family in Ohio. Wherever he went, even without his costume, he was often approached with the question, "Are you Santa?" which never failed to delight him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores.

He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Hintz and her husband, Jeff, of Troy, and Toni Hett Fennig and her husband, Randy, of Springfield, Ohio, and his three grandchildren, Jesse Lee Fennig, Kathryn Marie Fennig and David Mitchell Fennig; and his adopted daughter of Tokyo, Japan, Kiyoko Naito Obana and her husband, Eijchi, and their three children: Tiaga, Ila and Kachita.

He is also survived by his brother Irvin Hett of Oak Harbor, Wash., and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at Troy Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Troy Senior Citizens Center.

Both Jack and Dolores were deeply committed to missions work. Memorials may be given to the Jack and Dolores Hett Memorial Missions Fund, c/o Prince of Peace United Brethren Church, 2701 Middle Urbana Road, Springfield, OH 45502.
