Irene Mertel

Irene M. Mertel, 92, of Libby, died on Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the Libby Care Center.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1912, at Rosebud, Mo., to Frank and Rosa Sego Fisher.

She attended school at Tea, Mo., through seventh grade.

Irene married Edward Mertel in 1928 and they moved to Libby in 1939.

She enjoyed rock hounding and fishing, and spent 18 years wintering in Arizona.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Edward and a son Norman.

Survivors include son Victor Mertel and his wife Barbara in Seattle, Wash.; daughter Donna Jean Scow and her husband Thomas, Port Aransas, Texas, and nine grandchildren.

Services are being conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Nelson & Vial funeral Home.

Visitation was from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
